Foodie Friday: Sticky Toffee Pudding at The Four Marys
And so it was, while at The Four Marys, a pub and restaurant in Linlithgow, Scotland last fall, I had the best dessert EVER.
Meet sticky toffee pudding.

Pardon me while I wipe the drool from my keyboard.
One word: decadent
Two words: moist cake
Three words: drenched in toffee
Four words: slathered in heavy cream
Guh.
I know it doesn’t exactly look like much, but the sticky toffee pudding came highly recommended from friends who’d been to the pub before. Don’t let the word “pudding” discourage you–it’s actually a traditionally British cakey concoction that’s rich and dense like what we call a fruitcake Stateside. The moistness is derived from the dates in the batter as well as from the process of steaming the cake during the baking process.
Sweet and creamy and oh-so-good, I can’t wait to have this delicacy again. While I don’t anticipate going back to Scotland any time in the immediate future, this recipe will have to tide me over until I do.
What’s the BEST dessert you’ve discovered while traveling?

Oh wow that looks delicious. I think the best dessert I ever had travelling was in Calgary when my friends and I went to a dessert bar called Nectar. There was a really delicious raspberry cake there, but unfortunately the restaurant closed.

Alouise, isn’t that always the way it goes? Girl falls in love with amazing dessert….restaurant that makes the dessert closes. Sigh.
Agree this is a great dessert, I’ve had it in this same pub… delicious indeed.
